Council President's Report.… The first six months [of last year] were a continuation of the Rev. (Dr.) Lauri J. Anderson's role as Vice Pastor. It was a time that began our rebuilding. Sunday service attendance increased and so did our membership. Pastor Anderson performed a valuable service for our church and we owe him a deep debt of gratitude.

Following the long, patient search during 1981 and 1982, we offered a call to Rev. Kenneth R. Jetto and during the last six months he has begun his ministry and has diligently served us. As with any start-up period there have been differences of opinion, but everyone has been able to work them out with good communications.…

The Pastor's Report [by new pastor Ken Jetto]… First, the entire congregation is to be commended for the fine way in which it weathered a stormy time in its long history. As part of that a special thanks must go to Pastor Anderson for his fine work as Vice Pastor for the congregation. I stepped into a healthy situation,…

Church historian Mark Anderson has remarked that Pastor Jetto is an excellent liturgist. As well as his fine voice, he has an intuitive as well as a schooled grasp of liturgy, and as a result he heartily contributed to the ongoing debate over the frequency and delivery of communion.

There was a large and active Sunday School and a children's choir.

Erwin Holumzer, 63, continued to coordinate monthly visits to the Lake Hill and Woodstock Manor rest homes.

Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti, 46, the dictator of Iraq, hosted in Baghdad Donald Henry Rumsfeld, 51, former U.S. Secretary of State and for the preceding 6 years the CEO of the worldwide pharmaceutical firm G. D. Searle and Company, who was acting as President Reagan's special envoy to the Middle East. Saddam agreed to favor U.S. corporate suppliers.
