Christ's Lutheran Church in 1997

Pastor Wynemah Hinlicky, conducting services. She continued building the confidence of the congregation and reversing the downward spiral that had begun in the previous decade. She worked full-time as a part-time pastor! According to church historian Mark Anderson, Pastor Hinlicky is an excellent liturgist. As well as her fine voice, she has an intuitive as well as a schooled grasp of liturgy.

The projected spending plan for the year amounted to $82,508.00 ($99,010 in 2006 dollars).

Pastor Hinlicky attended a synod gathering (Called to Common Mission, or CCM) to discuss ecumenical proposals.

In September, a cross was installed on the church steeple and dedicated to the Glory of God in honor of life-long member Erwin Holumzer, 77 (who died the following month). The cross replaced a thin spire that had been there since the church had been built.

The name of the church's newsletter was changed from The Scroll to Christ's Beacon. The "Church Mouse" column was added.

Victoria Langling, as co-founder and general director, continued to administer the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, in partnership with area restaurants and with all the local Christian churches, the Jewish congregation, and the Onteora Teachers Association. According to Langling,

We have learned that there are many who are hungry and come to our church soup kitchen, but we have also learned that many are there for the companionship that comes from sharing a community table. Some early supporters: Barbara and Don Stephens, Carmen & David Adler, Marie Schussler aka "The Cookie Lady," Francis J.
